Production of ‘Fast and Furious 7’ Progressing Slowly

June 16, 2014

Universal’s “Fast and Furious 7” is filming in Atlanta and according to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say that it’s been a slow process “because of the technical demands of recreating late star Paul Walker.”  Star Vin Diesel has been said to be causing further delays by being difficult.

These difficulties have caused for some of the crew members to daydream about using the facial replication technology used to put Walker in the film as a substitute for Diesel as well, implying they wish it had been Diesel who died instead.  Sources confirm that the progress has been frustrating and the crew is suffering from “low morale.”

Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley denied these difficulties in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter: “This production is working through some challenges that are historically unprecedented.  The crew and cast, led by Vin, have been nothing but terrific under these circumstances.”

Speculation has been made that the problems may be due to the decision to continue filming with Paul Walker’s photo doubles instead of writing him out of the movie.  The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that Peter Jackson’s Weta is undertaking the effects work using three cameras and the main-unit cameras to capture Walker’s stand-ins for face replacement.

“There is a massive amount of gear,” a source reports.  “Everything they want with Paul gets done three times over.”

Universal intends to keep the franchise going with work being done on an eighth film and maybe more.  “Fast & Furious 7” is set for release April 10, 2015.
