More Film Studios Rumored to be Built in Georgia

August 11, 2014

Georgia has stepped into the spotlight over the last few years with producers leaving Los Angeles, California for the less crowded peach state, trained crew members, a large airport, versatile Georgia scenery, and Georgia’s new 30 percent tax incentive. Georgia lawmakers feel that the state’s film tax incentives will encourage further growth of Georgia’s film industry, especially with proposals to expand the tax credit. Investors are rumored to be turning the Atlanta Civic Center into a new film studio.  Producers’ plans to turn the Civic Center into a film studio followed the announcement for a large tax credit in Georgia.

Project Casting reports that, “the project plans include film and television studios surrounded by a performing arts center, a hotel, and a mix of residential, office and retail space, which could transform the downtown Civic Center property into a regional tourist destination.”

Georgia is already home to the internationally known Pinewoods Studios, a 288-acre site with five sound stages totaling 100,000 square feet and 300,000 square feet of production office and workshop space.  With his recent purchase of Fort Mac, Tyler Perry also has shown interest in building a new movie studio on the 330-acre property.
