BronzeLens Women Superstars Award: Honoring Women of Color in the Film and Television Industry

This year the producers of the BronzeLens Film Festival have selected five illustrious women to receive the “BronzeLens Women Superstars Award.”

This highly sought after award recognizes some of the most successful females of color in the industry. This year’s honorees include actress Margaret Avery (The Color Purple), filmmaker Julie Dash (Daughters of the Dust), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, producer Nina Bongiovi (Dope), and script supervisor Dawn Gilliam (Star Wars, Star Trek, The Hunger Games). Women in the industry praise the luncheon as an inspiring and informative gathering to highlight their unique successes.

The Superstars Luncheon takes place in the middle of the 7th annual BronzeLens Film Festival, uniting film purveyors and creators from August 25-28. The BronzeLens Film Festival has always done an admirable job at highlighting amazing filmmakers in Atlanta. This festival celebrates all of film, while specifically focusing on bringing attention to people of color in the industry. The mission of the BronzeLens Film Festival of Atlanta, Georgia is two fold: to promote Atlanta as the new film mecca for people of color; and to showcase films and provide networking opportunities that will develop the next generation of filmmakers.
