Atlanta productions receive Location Managers Guild nominations

March 6, 2017

Hidden Figures and Stranger Things have been nominated for Location Managers Guild International Awards.

The two Atlanta productions were nominated in the recent announcement by LMGI president Eric Klosterman. Both productions have been doing well in the award circuit this year, earning wins and nominations for Golden Globes and Oscars.

Notable Georgia locations used in Stranger Things include Emory University’s Continuing Education Department on Briarcliff Road (used to portray Hawkins Labs), Patrick Henry Academy (a closed school in Stockbridge), and Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers (for the famous woods--the same place the 1996 equestrian Olympic events were held). Scenes were filmed in towns throughout Georgia, or at Screen Gems Studios in downtown Atlanta.

Hidden Figures filmed in locations such as the Monroe Courthouse, the Lockheed Martin Wind Tunnel in Marietta, and Fort McPherson in Atlanta. These specifically chosen locations added to their productions, immersing viewers into the storylines.

In their fourth annual award ceremony this April, the LMGI will honor feature films, television productions, and commercials from around the world, focusing on productions whose location choices and creativity inspired the film and created more expression for the storyline. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 8, at the Steven J. Ross Theater in Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California.
