Most NAACP Image Awards categories have a connection to Atlanta

From shows filmed in the area to actors who are from here, Atlanta and Georgia are well-represented
Tyler Perry, Tituss Burgess, Janelle Monae — even Rep. John Lewis — are just a tiny sample of Atlanta’s representation at the 51st NAACP Image Awards.
In fact, there are very few categories that don’t have some connection to Atlanta or Georgia.
The awards celebrate the “outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts, as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.”
The NAACP is honoring John Lewis for his congressional service and long history as a civil rights activist. The nation's oldest civil rights organization announced Tuesday it will bestow the Chairman's Award on the Georgia Democrat.
The awards show will be shown live 8 p.m. Saturday, February 22, on the BET Network.
