BronzeLens Film Festival Holding Special Screening Of Sankofa
On Tuesday, February 22, BronzeLens will host a virtual streaming session of Sankofa. The film, written and directed by Ethiopian-born Haile Germina, follows an African American fashion model who begins the movie by taking sultry photos in front of the ruins of a slave castle in Ghana with no regard for the atrocities that occurred there. A local sees what she is doing, and an angry encounter between them results in the model waking up in the past on a colonial plantation in the Americas. Now, she must endure a physical and spiritual journey that will test her resilience and drive to survive.
The screening will begin at 6:00 P.M. and will be followed by a talk-back session at 8:05. This features Dr. Karsheik Sims-Alvarado, the CEO of Preserve Black Atlanta, Afemo Omilami, an actor in Sankofa, Kevin Sipp, the cultural curator for Gallery 72, Dr. Sonya McCoy Wilson, the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Atlanta Technical, and Dr. Michael Simanga, an arts activist.
